PROJECT TRAPDOOR!
-The elusive story is finally here! -
So many of you will be aware of ‘The Trapdoor’ comic. and its long history of struggles with launching.
Attempt 1 and 2, hit a wall with translation issues.
great artists!, but the language barrier slowed things down to a point of non-progress
turning it into a money sink hole.
Attempt 3 hit scam issue. someone applying for the job with someone else’s art.
then trying to pass off sub standard work. we quickly found out who’s art it was, informed them, and reported the scammed. counted our losses and went back to the drawing board.
I took a break to just rethink the approach, and during that time the script had time to breath. this can be a bad thing or a good thing.
(bad if you allow endless tangents to creep in)
(good if you stick to the plot thread and deepen it)
the brain juices were firing hard and I started working on a deeper world lore to play in. taking it from a ‘Jekyl and Hyde’ homage playing in a Batman meets Punisher vibe.
to it’s own cyberpunk, Neo-Tokyo Yakuza story, involving manipulation and corruption on a genetic level.
And so we tried Attempt 4.
This particular artist had promise, however…
It was months between contact. and here… several months later.
I still don’t have the high repulsion copy of page 1. despite paying for it.
BUT, this isn’t a “pity me” post.
its a celebtration!
I took this all as a sign, this story is VERY specific in its vision.
its ultra violence, its expression, its tone, its mutation.
it all needed to be handled in a very particular way.
And so I reached my ‘Thanos’ moment.
slipped on my art glove, and pronounced.
”Fine, … I’ll do it myself”
I am thrilled to be bringing my painterly style to the comic.
And I am seriously excited to introduce everyone to each of the 10 hands families.
I truly hope I can have you saying “thats fucked up!” at least once! when you meet the villains of Trapdoor.
and if I can make you laugh.
as well as saying “thats cool”, at least once.
then I will consider my job done well.
Thanks again for your support.
More updates to come soon!
